walkthrough

Loreland is a fictional storytelling app in the horror genre. Each storytelling experience is unique and based on one of three Experience Dimensions of your choice. You can generate a story in any Dimension, anytime. You can generate as many stories as you want and as many times as you want. Each story is about two minutes long and narrated aloud by AI voice synthesis, modeled on real human performances.

Places Dimension

The Places Dimension tells stories based on your immediate surroundings. Pick one of ten sub-genres and press Play a New Story. Stories in this Dimension are based on your present location and include references to places within 200 meters of you. Such places might include names of commercial establishments, cities and towns, street names, municipal and geographic landmarks, and more.

Artifacts Dimension

The Artifacts Dimension tells stories based on an image you provide and any optional notes you add about the image. Simply upload an image and add any notes if desired, and Loreland takes care of the rest. You can also expand an image for an enlarged view by pressing the expander button in the top right corner of the image.

Dreams Dimension

The Dreams Dimension tells stories based on dreams you vaguely remember. All you do is describe what you can recall, and Loreland will tell a story that fills in the gaps.

Listening to a story

Each Dimension follows the same pattern for listening to a story.

Selecting Play a New Story generates a story.

After your story is generated, Play a New Story changes to Play Story, and Play a New Story is reintroduced above Play Story as an alternative option.

Selecting Play Story starts the story's narration. Once your story has ended, Play Story changes to Replay Story. Selecting Replay Story plays the exact same story again.

Selecting Play a New Story, whether shown as the only button on the page or shown above Play Story, generates a new story based on your current settings. Depending on the Dimension, your current settings might be any sub-genre you've kept or changed, any text you've added or modified, or a new image you've provided.

Lastly, a Reset Page option is available (appears as a refresh button on mobile) if you prefer to clear all your inputs at once and begin a new story from scratch.

Voices

You can choose between six different narrators. There are two ways to select your narrator:

1) Voices page

On mobile, you can visit the Voices page by selecting the Menu button on the Home page. Under Voices, select your narrator. You can also sample the narrator's voice next to each narrator's name. Once selected, your chosen narrator will narrate any story you generate in Loreland. You can always change your narrator by visiting the Voices page and selecting a different narrator.

On desktop, you can visit the Voices page by selecting the Voices tab in the top right of the Home page. As with mobile, you can select your narrator as well as sample the narrator's voice next to each narrator's name. Likewise, your chosen narrator will narrate any story you generate in Loreland, and you can change your narrator anytime by visiting the Voices page and selecting a different narrator.

2) Voices button inside any Experience Dimension

On mobile, you can select the Voices button in the top right of the Experience page. A pop-up will appear showing the six narrators. The narrator already selected on the Voices page will appear as the default. Choose a different narrator if desired. The narrator set prior to your new selection will still narrate a story that has already been generated but not yet played (i.e., when you see Play Story). Your new choice of narrator will begin after you select Replay Story or Play a New Story.

On desktop, you can select the Voices button beneath the word mark at the top of the Experience page. From here, options are the same as on mobile.

Editing your inputs

Every Dimension follows the same rule for how your inputs affect a story: sub-genre for Places, text and/or an image for Artifacts, and text for Dreams.

You're free to add, remove, or modify your inputs at any time — except while a story is loading. Whatever inputs exist at the moment you select Play a New Story become that story's basis. Once a story has loaded, Play Story and Replay Story will always reflect the inputs that were in place before that story was generated — even if you go on to change your inputs afterward. Your changes only take effect the next time you select Play a New Story.

One exception: your choice of narrator works differently. If you change your voice after a story has loaded, Replay Story will use your new voice — not the one active at generation time.

Adding text is optional for Artifacts and required for Dreams; you can add as little or as much as you like. Adding an image is required for Artifacts. If you remove an image after a story has loaded but before pressing Play Story, you'll lose the story that loaded.
